Why can I not just put vitamin C on my skin?

Why can I not just put vitamin C on my skin?

A:
Regular Vitamin C is chemically known as Ascorbic Acid, the form most prevalent in food and supplement products. It’s inexpensive and readily available. Unfortunately, it also breaks down within 24 hours of coming in contact with water. This makes it highly unstable in skincare products because it’s a water-soluble ingredient (i.e. it won’t mix with oils) and yet the water needed to deliver it into the skin breaks it down rapidly. This is why many products on the market with Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C in them are largely ineffective. In an attempt to solve this problem, some skincare companies have switched to oil soluble versions of Vitamin C, but while these forms can be very effective in sunscreen products, clinical research has proven that they are not as effective in deeper layers of the skin for influencing collagen synthesis.
This is why the Eternale Peptide-C Serum uses a special form of Ascorbic Acid that has been buffered to create Stabilized L-Ascorbic Acid that lab tests have proven to be very stable in water and water-based solutions for several months. This means that you’re getting the full benefits of Vitamin C as it was meant to be delivered and as tested in the lab, so it can impart its full range of benefits without degradation in aqueous products. Again though please note you may feel a tingling sensation with the Peptide-C Serum as the vitamin C is absorbed into your skin. This sensation tends to diminish with repeated use. However if you experience persistent redness and/or irritation, discontinue use and consult your physician.
